Irish Writers' Exchange Launches Writing Competition as part of Dublin City Council Integration Project

Writing is not just about character development, storylines and inner reflection. At the heart, writing is about sharing - sharing of ideas, sharing of experiences and sharing of beliefs.

The Irish Writers' Exchange has always believed in the transformative power of this shared experience and this year we have joined forces with Dublin City Council to bring it to a wider audience.

With the kind support of DCC's Office for Integration Programme we will be holding a series of workshops, talks and readings in Secondary Schools and Libraries across Dublin.

The talks will focus on the importance and power of the written word, the Irish perception of immigrants and immigrants' perception of the Irish, as well as on how communication and writing can be used as tools of integration.

As part of this project we are inviting submissions from all over Dublin for short stories. Here are the details:

  • Word limit: 5000
  • The story should focus on an outsider's perspective (this is to be understood in the wider sense so be creative)
  • It can be any genre
  • The submission deadline is May 15th 2012
  • There will be a winner for under-18s and over-18s
  • The winners will have their story featured on our website and be invited to read from their story at a Gala Night in Dublin City Centre
  • Submissions should be sent to contact@irishwritersexchange.com

For more information on this initiative as well as the Irish Writers' Exchange, come visit us at one of our Workshops:

  • 23rd of January 2012: Ballymun Library
  • 7th of March 2012 @ 2 PM: Ballymun Libray ("Finding Your Voice")
  • 14th of March 2012 @ 2 PM: Ballymun Libray ("Plot Development")
  • 21st of March 2012 @ 2 PM: Ballymun Libray ("Character Development")
